“Write hard and clear about what hurts.” Ernest Hemingway
This happens to be one of my favorite all time quotes. In fact it is written on a post it note above my desk.
That quote is my inspiration many, many days when I sit down to write. Particularly when I feel brave enough to let true words come out.
With this deep love for Ernest Hemingway quotes I scoured pinterest and found another one that speaks just as deeply to me.
There is nothing to writing. All you have to do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed.
That is a powerful quote. One that I fear is true more often than I want it to be.
While searching for all these quotes I realized how little I know about Hemingway. I did a quick internet search for a wikipedia page and some basic facts. I found out that Hemingway lived a life of adventure when he was young, divorced four times and eventually committed suicide.
It shook me, because this is a man whose vision and purpose for writing I have based myself on.
Personally I think writing is therapeutic. I love to write for that reason. I think more people should write for that reason.
Yet writing is not enough. Writing can help you get to your deepest problems but it will not solve them.
You need more.
